Pitfall came out in 2026 to pretty bad reviews.
Surfing the hype of the 100s and Final Destination Bloodlines, I thought Richard Harmon’s snark could save it.
It did not.
From questionable decisions, to very on the nose CGI blood, it could have just been a random slasher.
Slashers are either fun, suspenseful, or dumb.
Pitfall sadly falls into the dumb category.
We follow a group of people going camping in the middle of the woods, to bond I guess, after two deaths that occurred 5 years prior.
We have two siblings, with their significant others and a friend of theirs.
The timeline goes back and forth, and it’s fine, mostly. I get why it looked better on paper than what we got in the end. They thought they were being clever but sadly the killer isn’t interesting enough for us to care in the long run.
His vibe gives « I know what you did last summer »’s hookman, but without the presence.
What got me to lose all hope was the size of the forest.
The camera pans over it a few times and that thing is massive…
They walked for days without ever hearing Scott screaming when he got impaled, and yet the killer teleports right where he needs to be, always.
He gets right to the girls, the guy with an orange vest and the group easily, he remembers all his traps, even in the dark, he always has a weapon on hand and he doesn’t make a single sound -in the woods- mind you.
It’s like a cocktail of plot convenience.
The character development is fine, I guess. Closure with grief works in mysterious ways.
The relationship could be believable, but that truck took the longest time ever to kill the mom.
They would have had time to go to college and graduate by the time that flashback ended.
The hallucination part didn’t have strong enough acting to make it work or make us care, sadly.
The guilt part is understandable. The infection and fever can make you loopy. On paper it most likely worked, but not on screen.
Richard, did they pay you enough for this ? This was 1h50 just out of your name alone.
It hurt.
My rating : 1/5 bats
