The Hyde Park pet cemetery is located between Brook Street and Bayswater Road in London.
Built in the 1880s in Victoria Lodge’s garden, it houses around 1000 pet graves.
It was one of the first public pet cemeteries in the UK.
Closed since 1903, burials still happened until 1976.
It is closed to the public, but visits are planned occasionally. Spots sell out quickly.
Some graves are visible through the gate by the lodge.
Amongst the pets buried there are dogs, cats, monkeys (which were common pets in the Victorian era) and birds.
It was prestigious to bury a pet in a Royal Park, allowing them to rest forever where they once loved to run.
Sadly, much like the one in Asnières, France, if you ever get to visit, be warned : some graves are tough on the heart.
