Milk & Serial is a YouTube movie made by Curry Barker (the mind behind Obsession) in 2024.
It’s a found footage movie made for about 800$, following some dude bro’s prank YouTube channel.
You can feel the Obsession vibe seeping through the camera work here and there to build the unsettling feeling.
The acting is solid, the characters are believable, and the whole thing works.
Curry Barker definitely has a vibe to his style. Here he plays the protagonist, Milk, alongside Cooper Tomlinson (Ian in Obsession) who plays his best friend, Seven. He’s also behind pretty much everything else in the movie.
Writing, editing, producing, and even the score.
The plot is interesting but was kind of given away by the « I killed a cat » line, as most of us watch true crime videos.
I knew where things were going from there.
« This is not a prank. Life’s unfair. You’re unlucky. » is a heartbreaking line in a horror movie.
Imagine being a victim of some lunatic, and this being the answer to one of your questions.
It’s awfully well written.
And I gotta say, he does love killing his characters with bricks.
That’s going to become his « thing » in the years to come.
First Lara, then Sarah.
The fact that guys like Milk truly exist in this world is frightening, yet realistic. He’s not hiding behind tropes, he turns the camera back on all the immoral choices humans make on the daily and it’s really nice to witness.
And it’s weird to think that the ending to Milk & Serial was the original one planned for Obsession.
« What if you shoot your dick off ? » At least Milk had priorities.
