For the love of horror

Having attended the 2023, 2024, and 2025 editions, I can attest first-hand that For the Love of Horror (FTLOH) is one of the most well-organized conventions currently running.
It’s a breath of fresh air in an industry that can often feel like overpriced chaos.

From mascots to horror legends

While the guest list changes every edition, the FTLOH mascot never does : the man, the myth, the legend himself, Tim Cappello. You read that right, the “oily sax player” from The Lost Boys attends every single year (except in 2023 due to illness). As a fan favorite, he always performs his greatest hits at the Saturday night after-party.

For the love of horror is known in the industry for being able to pull some of the biggest names in horror. From Kiefer Sutherland, to Linda Blair, from Brad Dourif to Devon Sawa, from Lin Shaye to John Jarratt and so on…

Peeking behind the curtain : the opening party

The friday night usually starts with a double feature.
You get to watch two movies with your favorite actors and peek behind the curtain as they tell you all of the behind the scenes you might be unaware of.
That’s how we got to watch the Lost boys with Jason Patric, Terrifier with Jenna Kanell and Catherine Corcoran, House of 1000 corpses with Bill Moseley, Halloween with Nick Castle and Terrifier 3 with Lauren Lavera and Elliott Fullam.
If you paid attention, you’d see that we’re missing a movie on the list… It’s because in 2023, they even managed to get a special screening of Thanksgiving at their local cinema.
We had to keep quiet for a few weeks, having had a special message from Eli Roth himself before the movie.

More than just autographs : the experience

It’s not just about the celebrities. The venue is packed with props, photo ops, panels, and cosplayers.
There are so many great horror traders that will hurt your bank account. They even have a food court and a ghost train. For 2026, a blood rave (from Blade) is even planned on the saturday night.

The convention ends with a lovely extra send off since 2024… The sunday evening offers the option to watch one last movie with an actor before going back to everyday life.
That’s how we got to watch Tucker and Dale vs Evil with Tyler Labine, and Scream with Jamie Kennedy.

The reality of last-minute cancellations

The convention sometimes faces backlash when guests cancel last minute, but that is the nature of the industry. Actors land roles or have to do promo tours unexpectedly.
It’s neither the convention’s nor the actor’s fault—it’s just bad timing.
While I get the frustration, having been through it, they always try to make it up to us by bringing in more amazing guests.

The cost of passion

If there is ever a time in your life when you consider going to a horror con, I strongly recommend For the love of horror. Traveling from France to England is expensive, and hotels are pricey.
Some years, I literally had to choose between food or a photo op, but the memories are worth all of it.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go cry in broke in my room for missing Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich at the April edition.
