Jeepers Creeper’s problem

Do you want to know why horror fans from all over the world try to collectively avoid Jeepers Creepers ?

Was it a good movie we all enjoyed when it came out ? Yes.
Did the audience turn their backs on it ? Also yes, and for good reason.

The Creeper’s legacy : why we can’t ignore the director’s past

We first met the creature in 2001, and the music got stuck in our heads for a while afterwards. So did the chapel of corpses. But you’ll absolutely never read any sort of review of it -or its sequels- on this website.

Why ?
Because we don’t advertise pedophiles.

Victor Salva : the facts beyond the fiction

Victor Salva, the mind behind Jeepers Creepers, pleaded guilty in the 80’s for the sexual abuse of a 12 years old boy who starred in one of his movies. He was 29 years old at the time.
He was also in possession of child pornography to top it off.
He served only 15 months of his 3 year prison term and went on to have a mildly successful Hollywood career afterwards.

Is it hypocritical of me to call an entire franchise out when I might review work released under Miramax (the Weinstein Company) ? Probably.
My stance here is the same as my reaction to the Savile references in 28 Years Later: we must stop turning predators into ‘cool’ pop culture icons.”

But here, the main difference being that the Jeepers Creepers movies are built around his director’s vision.
We can say the crew did a good job, sure, but it would still, in the end, glorify his work.
And we can’t do that.
